Windows 10 Launches for Free on July 29th

June 1, 2015 – On Monday, Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 10 launches for free on July 29th in New York. For users who has a PC running on Windows 7 or 8, later will receive free upgrade to Windows 10. Also, smartphone and tablet running on Windows Phone 8.1 will be available for free updated to Windows 10 as well.

Windows 10 is going to be the first universal Operating System that allows all platforms including PC, smartphone, tablet and Xbox One connect and integrate in many more levels, while there were some limitations and differences depends on its platform before. It seems that Microsoft wants to remove the differences between these platforms as much as possible, this will definitely help its user experience improve.

We know Windows 8 and Windows Phone getting bad reputations, a lot of my friends still prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8. Many people thinks Windows 8 is kinda difficult to use, due to its big changes from Windows 7 for the UI design. Windows 10 is a big major update for Windows after 3 years, and it’s reported to be the last Windows. Microsoft wants to get rid of the bad reputation with this Windows 10, by bringing back the familiar ‘Start Menu’ from Windows 7, which has removed on Windows 8. We can say the new OS has good sides of the old Windows and Windows 8.

From Windows 10, that default browser ‘Internet Explorer’ will be switched to the new browser called ‘Microsoft Edge’ which was developed under the code name of ‘Project Spartan’. However, it seems that Microsoft will still allow some users have Internet Explorer on Windows 10. The Microsoft Edge is expected to be faster and lighter, also features a virtual voice assistant like Apple’s Siri, called ‘Cortana’ and ‘Action Center’ that lets you check notifications easily.

Also, Windows 10 has support for biometric authentication called ‘Windows Hello’, allowing you to sign into a machine with just your face or finger. Windows Hello works by scanning your face, iris, or fingerprint to unlock devices, replacing a PIN or password to gain access to your own machine.

Personally, I didn’t like Windows, because of its ugly UI interface. I always am a big fan of Apple’s Mac, but I like the new design in Windows 10 and Windows Phone, it seems very cool. Microsoft is trying to be innovative and challenge new things while Apple is losing its innovation, and using the technology that already exists. I’m sure there will be a big difference in 10 years.

I’m currently running Windows 8.1 on my Macbook Retina by Bootcamp. However, I’m thinking about getting a gaming desktop and reinstall Windows 8.1 and upgrade to Windows 10 there. But you better be hurry to upgrade, because Windows 10 is free to upgrade for only the first year from its release date, which means till July 29th, 2016. Also, once you are upgraded to Windows 10, you will receive updates afterwards for free. For more detail, check out the official blog for Windows.
