In a move to perhaps monetize their new and improved Messenger service, Facebook is in talks with developers about making games that are playable within the Messenger app according to a new report in The Information. So why is Facebook adding games to messenger platform?
Back in March, more than 40 new add-ons were developed for the service – for sending GIFs, photos, videos and more, but the Social Media giant attempt at drawing more users to Facebook Messenger seems to have fallen flat. This time, Facebook hopes to expand on the popularity of game playing and wants to tap into a fresh new revenue source that could come from in app game purchases, and with the popularity of playing games on the actual Facebook platform (who hasn’t been bombarded by game invites?) itself it may seem like a good idea and could boost the company’s gaming business. If it is a popular move for it’s Messenger users however, will remain to be seen.
There is no information on when the games will be launched in the Messenger app store, but since applications are already available we can take a guess that game applications will be following suit in the foreseeable future.
