A report from DigiTimes indicates that Apple is currently working on a technology that makes possible to integrating the physical Home Button (Touch ID) into the display. But this isn’t the first time that it’s reported, the idea of replacing the physical Home Button with a pure embed Touch ID into the display has been around for quite a while now.
Apple is internally developing touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions for its iPhones, according to sources in Taiwan’s IC design industry.
The TDDI single-chip solutions will also come with integrated fingerprint sensors, said the sources. The integrated design would fit into future iPhone designs – models with ultra-thin and ultra-narrow displays, and with a whole plane design eliminating the Home button.
DigiTimes doesn’t specifically reference embedding the physical button into the display itself, referring only to ‘a whole plane design,’ so this is still kind of sketchy.
However I personally believe this is highly true that Apple is developing on the technology, since there was a report in February that Apple has filed for a new patent called “Fingerprint Sensor in an Electronic Device,” the Touch ID fingerprint sensor could be moved from its home underneath the home button to a new location underneath the touch screen of the iPhone or the iPad.
By removing the physical button, it’s going to be possible for increasing its size of the screen without making the body bigger. That’s definitely a good news, I mean the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are too big already, and the screen is small compared to its body length. There may be some people who is a fan of the classic physical button but this is a really welcoming news for me since I love the design/idea of simplicity and ultra thin body. What do you think about this? Let us know in comment.
Also there is a rumour going around that Apple’s trying to bring its Touch ID for their major products such as the Apple Watch and Macbook, so this could be likely reality in the future but we know it’s not anytime soon.
Lastly, there is a good news for you. It’s soon July. You may wonder what that means.. it’s almost the season where Apple would announce the new iPhone, only two months to go.
